Fire breaks out on oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz after strike by unknown projectile

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) received a report of an incident in the Strait of Hormuz early Thursday morning.

Local authorities stated that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile, causing a fire to break out on board before emergency teams successfully extinguished it.

Reports confirmed that all crew members are safe, accounted for, and unharmed, with no damage or environmental impact reported as a result of the incident. Relevant authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event, identify the nature of the projectile, and ascertain those responsible for the attack.

Authorities have advised all vessels transiting the region to exercise extreme caution during passage and report any suspicious activity to the UKMTO.
