Pope Shenouda: Alexandria church bombing ‘was not individual act’

Coptic Pope Shenouda III on Thursday ruled out the possibility that the New Year's Eve bombing of a church in Alexandria had been an “individual act," insinuating that the attack was likely planned by a group or organization.

“Authorities say the bomber was killed in the blast,” the pope said. “This means there is nobody to bring to trial.”

The pope went on to warn of the possible "infiltration" of recent Coptic demonstrations by dangerous elements.

“Not all the protests were organized by Copts,” he said, pointing to what he called “infiltrators” among the demonstrators who "exploited" the protests for personal reasons.
