The Egyptian army on Wednesday wielding clubs dispersed Tahrir Square sit-in protesters and removed the tents erected there, eyewitnesses said.
Protesters previously vowed to not vacate the square until the State Security Investigation Bureau was completely dissolved, not merely restructured.
One of the protesters residing in the makeshift domiciles was an officer working in the bureau, discovered after protesters checked his ID, they said.
The Tahrir demonstrators demand a trial for former President Hosni Mubarak, the abolition of the emergency law, and a timetable for the interim cabinet to carry out these demands.
