Members of the Armed Forces today removed a large marble statue of ousted president Hosni Mubarak from its position in front of the Shura Council, a parliamentary source said.
The same source said they put the statue–a bust on a large marble base–in a storeroom used by the Council for keeping waste.
In 2008, Safwat al-Sherif, former National Democratic Party secretary-general and speaker of the Shura Council, asked the state-owned Arab Contractors Company to install the statue after restoration work following a massive fire.
The statue cost over LE150,000 to make.
