Electoral commission: Violations will be sternly dealt with

The head of the Supreme Electoral Commission, Intissar Nassim, responsible for overseeing the current Shura Council elections, declared that he would “never accept” external or internal intervention in the Shura races, which are scheduled to begin early next month.

At a press conference for foreign press agencies, Nassim announced that the commission’s branches in each constituency would “deal severely” with any electoral violations by security forces during the voting process. Nassim went on to explain electoral procedures, disclosing the total number of candidates and the supervisory role played by the judiciary.

Nassim urged voters to inform commission members of any electoral breaches by the security services. Each constituency would have three lawyers on hand to oversee the balloting, he added, stressing that elections would be “entirely transparent.”

Nassim also announced that he would form a committee to deal with media outlets and to provide them with available information.
