Alexandria cathedral presses court on church bombing case

The Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral will file new reports with Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud about investigations in the New Year's Eve Two Saints Church bombing, a church source said Wednesday.

The attack killed 23 and injured 97 Copts as they were leaving mass.

The Urgent Matters Court in Alexandria began reviewing the case four days ago after the cathedral filed complaints about the slow pace of investigations on 13 September. The court has asked the prosecution to continue investigations and question former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly before the trial resumes on 13 November.

Nader Morqoss, a member of the cathedral's ecclesiastical council, said the church will file two new reports requesting that a video showing scenes from the explosion be added to the case documents.

The video was used during a review of a separate case against former President Hosni Mubarak, his sons, Adly and aides, Morqoss said.

Council Secretary Kamil Sadeeq said a list of those killed and injured was submitted to Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces, and Prime Minister Essam Sharaf so compensations could be distributed.
