A parliamentary committee report on Tuesday recommended holding Egypt's interior minister responsible for the deaths of protesters during recent clashes in downtown Cairo around the Interior Ministry.
The report, read by Osama Yassin, head of the youth committee, submitted a vote of no-confidence against Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim. It also demanded the removal of corrupt officials in the Interior Ministry and an end to violence against peaceful protesters.
The report also called on protesters not to attack public institutions and to return back to Tahrir Square.
It also proposed moving the Interior Ministry to another location, for the sake of residents and shop owners who have been suffering there.
Yassin added that a parliamentary delegation has visited the police hospital. The delegation learned there that one police major's eyeball exploded and suffered bone fractures when protesters attacked him in a police vehicle. Seven other policemen suffered from birdshot injuries, Yassin said.
Yassin said the number of police injured was estimated at 271.
