Maritime movement in the Suez Canal came to a halt Wednesday when a container ship drifted off course because of inclement weather and sandstorms, Suez Canal Authority sources said.
The incident delayed the route of Mediterranean-bound ships.
The sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Ever Ulysses, a ship hoisting Singapore’s flag and carrying 72,000 tons of cargo, skidded with strong winds while coming from the Red Sea. They said the authority sent tugboats to steer the boat, and navigation movement returned to normal.
Earlier Wednesday, authorities rescued a French ship that had gone adrift west of Alexandria. The ship, which raised the flag of Hong Kong, was carrying 60 tons of wheat.
