Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty has revealed that Egypt and Qatar intend to organize a major event in the near future to announce massive joint projects between the two countries.
In televised remarks on Thursday, Abdel-Aty said the sixth session of the Egyptian-Qatari Joint Higher Committee witnessed an agreement on a series of specific projects that will be officially announced in the coming weeks at a major celebration.
The Egyptian minister confirmed that the meeting included discussions on the implementation of a Qatari investment package worth $7.5 billion, which was reached during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Doha. He added that the session also explored ways and mechanisms to promote and strengthen cooperation, with a specific focus on economic, trade, and investment fields, given the exceptionally distinguished political relations between the two nations.
He stated that the committee’s work was a practical implementation of the directives issued during Sisi’s visit to Doha last April, which aimed to give a strong boost to economic relations. He also noted that the recent period has already seen a major leap in trade between the two countries.
He pointed to a more than 54 percent increase in the trade balance between Egypt and Qatar over the last year, adding that the Qatari side has praised the favorable investment climate created by the Egyptian government through radical reforms.
He noted that the meeting also addressed Egyptian and Qatari efforts regarding the Gaza Strip, including attempts to stop the bloodshed, end the famine, and achieve an immediate ceasefire. He affirmed that the Egyptian-Qatari vision, which Hamas has agreed to, is a clear one based on the plan of US envoy Steve Witkoff. He stressed that there are “no other plans” for Gaza and that “Israel must accept this plan,” adding that Israel is setting unfeasible conditions that cannot be accepted.
In a joint statement last April, Egypt and Qatar announced an agreement to work towards a direct Qatari investment package with a total value of up to $7.5 billion, to be implemented in the next phase. The announcement was made during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Doha and his bilateral talks with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
