Cairo hosted a crucial regional meeting between the Foreign Minister of Iran and the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, culminating in the signing of a new agreement to resume cooperation between the two sides.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty stated in a joint press conference that the deal was reached after weeks of intensive consultations, and highlighted his nation’s appreciation for the serious efforts made by both parties.
He added that the agreement represents a “message of hope” to the international community, proving that dialogue and understanding are still possible even in the most complex circumstances.
Egypt expressed its desire to see this agreement become a genuine starting point for a new phase of relations, one based on transparency and addressing the legitimate security concerns of all parties.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also stressed that this step should lead to further progress, including the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the US, with the ultimate goal of reaching a comprehensive nuclear deal that ensures regional and international stability.
He also emphasized the importance of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, specifically noting the need to end the “treaty imbalance” in the Middle East, a clear reference to Israel.
