On Thursday, the district of Al-Manyal in Giza Governorate witnessed a devastating fire that claimed the lives of six family members. Initial investigations by security forces suggest that a gas cylinder explosion may have sparked the blaze.
The Giza Civil Protection Authority received a report of a fire in a residential building on a side street in Al-Manyal. Five fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene, where firefighters managed to contain the flames before they spread to neighboring apartments.
Upon extinguishing the fire, it was discovered that the entire contents of the apartment had been consumed by the flames, and all six family members residing within had perished. A preliminary examination indicated that the fire was caused by a gas leak from a cooking gas cylinder during its operation, leading to an explosion that rapidly spread the fire throughout the apartment.
Security sources have stated that an investigative team is continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses and neighbors to rule out any possibility of foul play. Investigations have confirmed that the victims had resided in the apartment for several years, and neighbors had not noticed any disputes or issues that might suggest other motives behind the incident.
The apartment was located in a five-story residential building, and the remaining residents were able to safely evacuate upon the outbreak of the fire.
The prosecution has ordered forensic experts to examine the scene of the fire and determine the exact cause, and has also ordered autopsies on the victims to ascertain the cause of death and prepare a comprehensive medical report.
The prosecution has further instructed authorities to swiftly assess the material losses and prepare a technical report on the condition of the building and the extent of the damage caused by the incident.
