Abbas al-Akkad statue altered following criticism

Officials have made alterations to the bust of Egyptian writer Abbas al-Akkad, following a wave of criticism on social media about the statue's shape.

Three days after the bust was inaugurated by the Aswan governor in a square in Aswan city, sculptor Ragab Sayyed was called in to make the changes.

Sayyed likened the alterations to a beauty surgery that lasted about two hours without moving the bust from its place.

Social media users had mocked the bust, prior to its alterations, as a "monster" or "Akkad's ghost which aims to frighten little children".
