Abir Saadi elected board member of International Women Journalists’ Union

Abir Saadi was one of seven board members to be elected to the International Women Journalists’ Union in New Delhi on Friday.

Saadi is the third Arab journalist to be elected to this position since the founding of the union in 1951, and the second Egyptian journalist after Laila Doss, a 96-year-old woman who has been living in New York since retirement.

Saadi was nominated for her role in training Arab women journalists on protection and safety during their work in areas of conflict in the Middle East.

The union, which is based in Sweden, has recently added journalists who work with electronic media and documentaries, in addition to print and visual media journalists.
