A political activist was arrested on Thursday at Cairo International Airport on his way to Qatar, as his name was on the travel ban list, the Freedom to the Brave, an activist group campaigning for the release of political prisoners, declared on their Facebook page.
Khaled al-Sayyed, a member at the Youth for Justice and Freedom, was arrested at the airport and referred to the National Security Agency for interrogation, the group said, quoting his lawyer.
It added that al-Sayyed was heading to Qatar to visit his wife who works there.
His cell phone was switched off minutes following his arrest, the page said.
Activists have decried the continued detentions and disappearances of political activists under the government of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Several liberal opposition activists behind the 2011 uprising have been sentenced to jail for breaking the protest law introduced after Sisi ousted former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
