Activists’ challenge adjourned to February

On Monday, Abdeen Misdemeanor Court of Appeals postponed a challenge by political activist Ahmed Douma and April 6 founder Mohamed Adel and member Ahmed Maher to 10 February against the verdict sentencing each of them to three years in prison and fining them LE50,000 to achieve requests of the defense.

Prosecution earlier accused the suspects of attacking central security personnel in charge of securing the court, which caused injury of six of them, staging protest without notifying security authorities while Maher was being questioned in Qasr al-Nil prosecution on charges of protesting before Shura Council without permission. Each of Maher and Douma face accusations of gathering and hindering public transportation means.

The defendants have gone on hunger strike twice to protest what they call inhumane treatment from prison authorities.
