In an effort to demonstrate against the recent hike in meat prices, some locals in Damietta have launched a Facebook campaign to boycott both local and imported meat in an attempt to decrease prices ahead of Eid al-Adha.
One kilo of veal has gone up to LE80, while imported veal sells for LE90 per kilo. The cost for 1 kilo of imported buffalo meat has reached LE50, while local buffalo meat ranges between LE65 and LE75.
Meat markets have witnessed a significant increase in local meat prices which traders attribute to the fact that there is a general meat shortage.
