Hurghada–A report by the Administrative Control Authority’s office in Hurghada, Red Sea, has disclosed that hotels and resort owners seized three million square meters of beach reclamation lands, and used these lands for construction projects without repaying their debts.
The report described the land seizures as "squandering of public money." A decree by the State Council banned selling, renting or building on these lands without a permit, arguing that the lands are public property.
The authority has sent a copy of the report to Red Sea Governor Magdy Qubeisi, in which it demands the governorate measures the space of buildings and lands, and charge users. Qubeisi has set up a panel for that purpose.
The governor has set permit fees at 25 piasters per square meter, and said that those who violate this regulation will face legal action.
