Dozens of administrative staff from different governorate education departments protested Saturday in front of the Cabinet building, demanding pay equal to Education Ministry staff and continued examination bonuses.
They also called for setting a minimum wage of at least LE1500 upon hire.
Protestors held banners saying, “We’re in a sit-in until our demands are met,” and chanted, “Bread, freedom and social justice.”
Sami Salama, head of the independent syndicate for administrative education department’s staff in Fayoum, told Al-Masry Al-Youm, “We want to be granted a whole 200 percent incentive bonus, no discrimination between teachers and administrative employees, and [contracts for] temporary employees.”
Salama also said that examination bonuses should be separate from incentive ones, and that the Ministry of Education and not local departments should employ administrative staff.
In related news, dozens of teachers have continued their sit-in before the Cabinet demanding a minimum wage of LE3000, permanent contracts for temporary employees and salary increases.
Teachers have held several sit-ins and demonstrations since the beginning of the school year last week.
