African militants infiltrated the southern border of Egypt at dawn on Tuesday, across Lake Nasser in Aswan, and kidnapped two fishermen in the mountainous region of Khor Hemeida, according to Egyptian security sources.
Initial investigations revealed that the militants are part of an organization that smuggles African nationals across the border, and that the kidnapping followed a financial dispute with a group of Lake Nasser fishermen, who help in smuggling operations.
The Interior Ministry said the gunmen used automatic weapons and a truck without license plates in the operation, and identified the fishermen as Omran Bastawy, 44 and Saber Abdel Rady, 35.
