The General Syndicate for Air Hostesses in Egypt slammed two Ramadan series on Tuesday for the fallacies they showed about the work of flight attendants.
The syndicate accused the makers of “In La La Land” and “Ard Gaw” of ignorance of the work of air hospitality and of mixing aircraft models, which loses for these works the dramatic plot that they are supposed to provide.
The syndicate stressed that the drama has its basic elements and the author has his vision and imagination; however, that does not mean abandoning the ABCs of a world with its own peculiarities, such as air travel, which is not subject to personal views. The syndicate called on its members not to watch and to ignore these series.
In this Ramadan drama season there are two series being broadcasted on TV that have air travel scenes. One, “Ard Gaw”, is about hijacking of an aircraft, in which actress Ghada Abdel Razek starring as an air hostess.
“In La la Land” is about a plane that crashed on a island, with actress Donia Samir Ghanem starring as an air hostess as well.
The crew of “Ard Gaw” series responded to the criticism with a statement which stressed respect and full appreciation of the profession of air hospitality, and stated that the work is a dramatic plot that shows fictional characters, drawn from the imagination.
“The events of the series do not in any way criticize the profession of air hospitality; nor any other professions related to aviation. The series does not discuss specific professions, rather, it discusses the details of an event and social issues,” the statement said.
The statement added: “All the technical aspects of filming inside the aircraft were done on the advice of specialists who were present at the scene and committed to the work of the team, in order to avoid any technical errors while filming the airplane scenes.”
