The plane carrying the Egyptian Al-Ahly team to Kumasi for their Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League match against Ghana’s Medeama SC was forced to stay in Accra due to an emergency, a Thursday statement from the Al-Ahly’ Sporting Club’s Facebook page explained.
The plane landed at Accra Airport to refuel, and as the airport’s dedicated equipment was moving the plane in preparation for takeoff it collided with the front of the plane, rendering it unfit for flight.
The Egyptian team was forced to remain at the airport due to the lack of domestic flights at the present time.
They will head to Kumasi later on Thursday to face Medeama in the match scheduled for Friday.
Egyptian media reported that the Al Ahly administration will ask the CAF to postpone the match for 24 hours due to the incident.
