Al-Ahly has made history by signing on female football prodigy Camelia al-Deeb, set to join the club’s first ever women’s football team which Ahly is currently forming to compete in the junior women’s competition for next season.
Deeb, only 13, has caught attention as one of the best women’s football talents on the scene over the past years, firmly securing her place on the U-20 girls national team.
Ahly formed the junior women’s team following a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) which stated it will not grant a training license to clubs without women’s teams.
Deeb, coming from the al-Amiriya Youth Center, confirmed that she signed her transfer contracts to the Red Castle, and said that she will play in the club’s 2004 team despite being born in 2010.
She expressed happiness at being chosen as Ahly’s first signing in its first season for the women’s team competitions.
Al-Ahly announced back in July that it had opened up tests for women’s junior football to participate in the the 2023-2024 season.
The tests included the formation of teams born from 2005 to 2009.
Several popular clubs have begun including women’s football teams, such as Wadi Degla and al-Tayaran, later joined by Z Club, al-Ismaily, Arab Contractors, al-Masry of Port Said, and now Ahly.
