Al-Dostour reporters stage sit-in at Journalists Syndicate

Al-Dostour reporters on Tuesday staged an open sit-in at the Journalists Syndicate headquarters after the paper’s new board manager, Reda Edward, canceled a meeting with the syndicate’s head, Makram Mohamed Ahmed, for the second day in a row.

Those involved said they have filed a police report to document the incident.

On Monday night, protesters reportedly assaulted Edward and co-owner Sayyed al-Badawi while demonstrating against alleged attempts to manipulate the paper’s editorial policy. The protesters accused both men of conspiring with the ruling National Democratic Party to sack former Al-Dostour editor-in-chief Ibrahim Eissa, an outspoken regime critic.

Protesters demanded Eissa's reinstatement.
