Al-Hofra play inaugurated Sunday at Hanager Theater

The play “Al-Hofra” (The Hole) was inaugurated at the Hanager Theater by Syed Khater, head of cultural production sector, on Sunday evening.

The piece addresses the theme of the body controlling the human spirit.  It centers around the experiences of an Egyptian citizen and the difficulties and pressures he faces, ultimately resulting in his isolation and self-rejection.

The presentation is experimental in that it employs a variety of traditional techniques, theatrical language, movement, music, dancing and decor, in unconventional ways.

“Al-Hofra” is written, coreographed and directed by Hisham Ali with Tamer Magdy as executive director. It stars Yahya Mahmoud and Amr Farouk. Saddam Hussein designed the marionettes and they are puppeted by Abdel Hamd Hosni. The scenography is by Abu Bakr al-Sherif.
