Egyptian authorities have released a reporter for the Qatar-based news network Al-Jazeera who was arrested in the run-up to Egypt’s parliamentary elections, security sources said.
Mohamed Badr was apprehended on 24 November. Security confiscated an article he was writing and his laptop.
The reporter was detained for nearly one month pending investigations after he was charged with belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group, promoting its ideas, and possessing its leaflets and publications.
A security source said Badr, along with 12 members of the Brotherhood, were released due to a lack of incriminating evidence.
In a statement to the press following his release, Badr said, “I hope the day will come when justice becomes the basis of the relationship between the state and citizens.”
