Alex victim’s body to be exhumed for second autopsy

The Alexandria chief coroner on Wednesday ordered the body of Khaled Saeed–allegedly murdered by police in Alexandria last week–to be exhumed for a second autopsy. The body was transported to the morgue amid heavy security.

The Cairo-based El-Nadim Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence had contested the first autopsy report, describing it as inaccurate since it failed to take samples from congested areas of the victim’s lungs.

Meanwhile, Alexandria prosecutors continued their reinvestigation into the incident, taking testimony from 11 witnesses in the case. They also examined a picture of the victim’s body that had been posted on the Internet.

“The picture was of a bald man, whereas Saeed had long hair,” said Hassan Mesbah, owner of the cyber cafe in which Saeed had been arrested.

“The police barged in, tied Saeed up and began beating him,” Mesbah told prosecutors.
