Two alleged Muslim Brotherhood supporters were referred by the Alexandria Criminal Court to the Grand Mufti to give the final approval for the death sentence.
The ruling on the two defendants, Mahmoud Hussein Ramadan and Abdaah Abdel Wahid, is over an incident in which they allegedly threw boys from the rooftop of a building in Sidi Gaber, Alexandria.
The court postponed the verdict to 19 May in order to wait for the mufti's opinion on the death sentence for both defendants. Sixty-three defendants are currently being detained in the same case.
The incident occurred on 5 July 2013, two days after former President Mohamed Morsy was toppled. Violent clashes erupted between Morsy supporters and security forces in Sidi Gaber, killing 23 and injuring almost 200 others.
