Raml Court sentenced seven activists to two years in prison, fining them LE50,000 each.
The activists were accused of blocking the road, rioting and insulting police during the trial of Khaled Saeed on 2 December, and violating the protest law, which requires prior-authorization to hold a demonstration. High security measures were in place during the session.
Lawyers defending the suspects rejected referring the lawsuit to Criminal Court and issuing a verdict, despite demanding time to review documents.
Activists Loay al-Qahwagy, Omar Hafez, Naser Abul Hamd and Islam Mohammadein were arrested during the protest. Prosecution ordered the arrest of activists Hassan Mostafa, Mahinour al-Masry and Moussa Hussein.
