Egyptian superstar singer Amr Diab has sparked controversy after he slapped a fan who tried to take a picture with him at a wedding party on Friday.
The incident put Diab in the face of public ire, and the family of the fan has threatened to file a lawsuit against him.
The father of the victim told the Cairo 24 news website on Saturday that he would file a report against Diab over the incident, which went viral in a widely-shared video clip.
The young man’s father continued: “He’d better shoot him to death and not slap him on the face. We are proud people from Upper Egypt and we will take our right with the law. I will file a report now against Amr Diab.”
“My son is working and making a living after he graduated from university, like any young man,” he said.
The father continued, “My son entered a room and locked himself. He does not respond to anyone, nor is he willing to deal with us or speak to us. This is a great insult to us.”
