Amr Moussa asked to continue as Arab League chief

Permanent members of the Arab League urged Amr Moussa, current secretary-general of the league, to remain in his position during a time of unrest in the Arab world.

In a consultation meeting today–headed by Moussa–delegates also observed a moment of silence to honor those who died during Egypt's mass protests which started on 25 January and culminated in the departure of former President Hosni Mubarak a few days ago.

The delegates commended the role played by the Egyptian army in the crisis and expressed their readiness to help Egypt restore stability, particularly in terms of investment. They added that they respect the choice of the Egyptian people.
