ANHRI: Humum world’s top legal website in 2015

The website Humum, launched by the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) in 2006, has received more than 12 million visitors who accessed more than 18 million pages during January and February, becoming not only the most popular legal site in Egypt, but around the world, ANHRI announced in a statement in March.

Humum was launched in July 2006 to publish Arab citizens' complaints and suggestions for solutions to these complaints by other citizens or official bodies.

The website site received about a million visitors a year during 2006 and 2007, and starting 2008 until 2010 it received about ten million visitors a year, said the statement.

The website traffic dropped between 2011 to 2013, as a result of pressure and attack on civil society organizations.

Humum started to regain its previous levels in 2014 when it received 2 million visitors, according to the statement. The number of visitors increased significantly by 2015 as it received 5 million visitors in January, and over 7 million visitors in February.

Despite the siege and attack by state institutions on civil society organizations Humum has become the world's largest human rights website, said ANHRI director Gamal Eid.

Humum received over 70,000 complaints since 2006 to which over 75,000 solutions were suggested, said the statement.

Humum is almost voluntary as its management costs US$75 a month.
