Kofi Annan, the United Nations-Arab League envoy to Syria, arrived in Cairo Wednesday for talks on the Syrian crisis, DPA reported.
He is to meet with Arab League chief Nabil al-Araby to discuss the pan-Arab bloc's efforts to end nearly a year of bloodshed in Syria, sources said in Cairo.
The former UN chief is also to hold talks on Syria with Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, before visiting Damascus on Saturday, the sources added.
Late last month, Annan, 73, was appointed the joint United Nations-Arab League envoy on the Syrian crisis with a mandate to bring an end to the violence and promote a peaceful political solution.
