Antiquities minister inaugurates Tokyo’s pharaoh exhibition

Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damaty will head the opening ceremony on Thursday evening for an exhibition in Japan of Pharaoh antiquities dating back to the time of the Giza Pyramids.

The exhibition will tour eight Japanese cities over 25 months, featuring a selection of 120 pieces from the Old Kingdom.

In statements quoted by the ministry’s facebook page, Damaty said revenues expected from the exhibition are an estimated US$2 million, adding that besides the financial benefits the events will contribute to boosting tourism to Egypt’s various archaeological attractions.

The head of the ministry’s museum’s sector, Ilham Salah, also pointed out that the pieces featured in the event include a sun boat model as well as statues of King Khafre, inscribers and workers servants.
