Arab Economic Summit urged to tackle intervention in Egypt affairs

Egypt has asked Wednesday's Arab Economic Summit to denounce foreign intervention in its domestic affairs, Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Abul Gheit told reporters on Sunday.

Egypt submitted a memo to Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the Arab League, demanding the summit issue a statement regarding "attempts by Western and European powers to meddle in Egyptian and Arab affairs," according to Abul Gheit. He said that such a statement would repel foreign interference.

Abul Gheit did not give examples of such meddling, though he may be referring to Pope Benedict VI’s recent statements on the New Year's Eve church blast in Alexandria, in which he called upon Egypt to protect Coptic Christians and denounced the aggressions they suffer.
