Arab Parliament Speaker Ali al-Deqbasi called on Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on Tuesday to intervene in the situation in Yemen and prevent further killing.
Deqbasi said that further violence in the city of Taaz on Monday led to the deaths of several civilians and the destruction of public buildings.
In a statement on Tuesday, Deqbasi expressed the Arab Parliament's rejection of internal conflicts as well as the involvement of Arab armies in the Yemeni dispute. He also opposed the use of force to stay in power.
Among the main missions of the Arab Parliament, according to Deqbasi, is halting bloodshed between the populations living within a given country, achieving the civil and political rights of the Arab peoples, encouraging respect for the law and enhancing human rights.
He called on Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to respond to the people’s will and accept the initiative put forward by the Gulf Cooperation Council for the sake of the country’s security and stability.
