Army: Car bomb attack foiled east of Cairo

Army forces have prevented a car bomb attack on a military outpost east of Cairo, a military spokesperson said on Wednesday.

“The attempted attack at the Kattameya-Suez road resulted in the destruction of the vehicle and the death of its driver,” Colonel Mohamed Samir said on his Facebook page, adding that more details are to be declared after investigations are complete.

At least 700 army and police officers have been killed in attacks claimed by extremist groups since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The most recent attack came two weeks ago, when the pro-Islamic State militia, the Sinai Province killed 17 troops in North Sinai. Over 200 suspected militants have since been killed as per official army counts.
