Army installs Tahrir field hospital

The Egyptian army has set up a field hospital to provide medical care to protesters who have been stationed at Cairo’s Tahrir Square since 25 January demanding the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.

The hospital will also serve army personnel.

The armed forces have supplied the hospital with all necessary requirements, including an ambulance car to transport critical cases to army-run hospitals in Maadi and Helmiyat al-Zaitoun, according to the officer in charge, Lt. Col. Bassem Mohamed, who added that mobile pharmacies are also being provided.

Replacing the police forces after their controversial withdrawal from most of Egypt's regions on 28 January, the army enjoyed a cheerful reception from demonstrators who view the armed forces as the people’s protector.
