Col. Ahmed Ali, Egyptian Armed Forces spokesperson, denied the involvement of members of the army's Task Force 777 in Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in dispersal.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, he said that all reports on the units' involvement are "far from the truth", and added that none of the Armed Forces units joined in the dispersal of the sit-ins early Wednesday.
Task Force 777 is an Egyptian military counter-terrorism and special operations unit created in 1977 by the government of late President Anwar al-Sadat in response to terrorist menaces. The task force was dispatched to several countries to accomplish highly specialize anti-terrorism missions including many plane hijacks. The task force was disbanded and later formed again to deal with internal threats.
