Security sources on Tuesday said a 17-year-old Egyptian had been arrested while trying to cross into Israel from Egypt’s eastern border in the Sinai Peninsula.
Security agencies are currently interrogating the young man to determine his motive for making the attempt, although they believe he had hoped to find employment in Israel.
Since the 1980s, hundreds of Egyptian nationals have traveled to the Hebrew state, with many marrying Israelis or Palestinians holding Israeli citizenship.
