Assistant Justice Minister for the Illicit Gains Authority Assem al-Gohary has summoned former Shura Council Speaker Safwat al-Sherif for investigation on Monday.
Al-Sherif and his wife Iqbal Atteya are charged with illicit profiteering by exploiting their official powers for personal profit.
Al-Sherif, his wife, and their sons Ashraf and Ihab, own 11 mansions and eight apartments. His sons also have shares in the state-owned Egyptian Satellite Company and Media City Company, and own more than ten companies that produce TV series and advertising.
The Egyptian stock exchange has prohibited the trading of shares in al-Sherif’s companies.
