Basic commodities reserve enough for another 4 months, says official

The strategic reserves of Egypt's basic commodities are enough for the next four months, said an official source on Sunday.

Ahmed Fatahy Abdel Aziz, head of the Control and Distribution Sector at the Solidarity and Social Justice Ministry, said the rice crisis has "fully ended."

He told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the ministry is capable of storing about 100,000 tons of rice as a strategic reserve, in addition to soliciting international rice tenders to provide the rice needed over the next three months.

Meanwhile, the Solidarity and Social Justice Ministry announced it has contracted enough pasta for 64 million citizens.

The General Agency for Supply Commodities contracted Saturday over 15,469 tons of pasta at prices ranging between LE2875 and LE3000 per ton, said Nasr Noaman, its deputy head.
He said that manufacturers will supply the ministry with pasta between 24 October and 17 November.
