The animation movie Buzz Lightyear has sparked controversy, after it was banned in some Arab countries, because it contains homosexual scenes.
The movie features the story of the space keeper Buzz Lightyear, who appeared in the famous Disney series, and because of scenes of a kiss between two gay people in the film’s events, the film was rejected by censorship in several countries, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Kuwait bans Buzz Lightyear
The Kuwaiti “al-Jarida” news website published that the movie Lightyear may be banned due to the presence of two gay characters in the events, after Disney refused to delete the scene, so that the only option before the Ministry of Information is to ban the film, as happened with some films produced by the company in the last period, including Eternalls starring Angelina Jolie.
UAE displays Buzz Lightyear under family supervision
Against Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain’s refusal to commercially show the movie in cinemas, FOX cinema chain in the Emirates announced the release of Lightyear in theaters starting from mid-June, under the category “PG”, that is, under family supervision, as it must be watched under Family control for those under 12 years old.
Story of Buzz Lightyear
The film revolves around the story of a young astronaut, Buzz Lightyear, who is stranded on a hostile planet with his captain and crew, trying to find a way back home through space and time, while also facing a threat to the safety of the universe.
The movie is co-written and directed by Angus MacLean, starring Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear with Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, James Brolin, Taika Waititi, Del Souls, Uzo Aduba, and Mary McDonald Lewis.
