US President Joe Biden believes that “Gaza and the West Bank should eventually be reunited under one governance structure,” after the end of the current war between Israel and Hamas.
Biden said in an opinion article, excerpts of which were reported by international media on Saturday: “The Palestinian Authority should ultimately manage the West Bank and Gaza Strip.”
“The international community should establish a reconstruction mechanism to meet Gaza’s long-term needs, and civilians should not be forcibly displaced from Gaza,” he added.
“Our goal should not be merely to stop the war now, but to end the war forever. My heart breaks over the images coming from Gaza and the death of several thousand civilians, including children. The future we are working for in the Middle East has no place for violence and hatred, and the Palestinians deserve to have their own state, and to have a better future in which there is no Hamas.”
