Biggest container vessel crosses Suez Canal

The Panamanian container ship "MSC Oliver" crossed through the Suez canal on Sunday, coming from the Red Sea en route to the Mediterrenean.

A navigational source from the Suez Canal Authority said the ship is the largest container vessel in the world. It passed through the canal carrying loads of 196,000 tons. There were 19,224 containers on board. A canal authority ship accompanied the vessel during its 18-hour trip, in case of emergency .

The Swiss MSC company, which, according to the source, owns the vessel, is considering drawing up a plan to establish fourth generation container vessels in order to transfer the largest number of containers in one trip.
