Around 14,000 tourists have arrived so far on Saturday at Hurghada International Airport, the highest number of tourists to visit the resort city since the start of the 25 January revolution in 2011, said officials.
State TV quoted Sami Abdel Moneim, the airport's head, as saying that 90 airplanes have landed at the airport so far today.
He added that 45 airplanes were coming from Russia, 20 from Germany and 15 from Netherlands, in addition to 10 domestic flights.
Around 100,000 Egyptians work in hotels and resorts in Hurghada. Several hundreds of thousands depend on tourism revenues in the city.
On 24 March, Hurghada International Airport reported the arrival of 75 airplanes carrying 12,000 tourists.
Tourism rates dropped during the last quarter of 2011 by 29.2 percent, to 2.9 million compared to 4.2 million at the same time in 2010, according to official figures.
The government has said that the state of uncertainty that has prevailed since the outbreak of the revolution, as well as periodic outbreaks of violence in 2011 and into 2012, have discouraged tourists from visiting the country.
Abdel Moneim added that tourists companies have planned to organize better welcomes for tourists by offering folk music and organizing trips inside the city.
