Breaking barriers: Egyptian fencer defies odds to compete pregnant

Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez dropped a bombshell on Instagram, revealing that she has participated in the Paris Olympics while seven months pregnant.

Hafez wrote on her Instagram page: “What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three! It was me, my competitor, and my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!”

“My baby and I had our fair share of challenges, be it both physical and emotional. The roller-coaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life and sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it,” she said in the post.

The Egyptian champion started her journey in the Olympics on Monday by qualifying for the round of 16 in the sabre competition, but lost to the South Korean champion (15-7), thus bidding an honorable farewell to the Paris Olympics.
