British and Egyptian officials discussed how to freeze and restore money smuggled outside Egypt during the reign of former President Hosni Mubarak, an official from the British Embassy in Egypt said Tuesday.
At a British Embassy press conference, Daniel Drake, first secretary for economic and political affairs at the embassy, said his country has not been slow to implement the EU's decision to freeze Mubarak's funds.
He said he cannot reveal the amount of funds frozen because British law forbids this.
Drake denied news that Britain offered to sell security equipment to Egypt but said the UN and other countries, including Britain, are interested in providing assistance to Egypt in restoring security.
He said Britain has not advised against traveling to Egypt, adding that British visitors were only told to avoid Alexandria and Cairo. British tourists are visiting Egyptian destinations as usual, he said.
