"This is like a coup and this kind of threat is altogether rejected," he said. "We are changing our tactics and we have prepared a scenario…to confront a situation as such."
"If the army takes action on the ground, we have a plan in place to face that."
The Egyptian army had said its earlier ultimatum did not indicate it was launching a coup, although the 48-hour deadline given to President Mohamed Morsy has been interpreted as such.
