Jeremy Kumana, Secretary General of Burundi’s ruling party, congratulated Safwat al-Sharif, Secretary General of Egypt’s ruling National Democratic Party (NDP).
“You had a sweeping victory just like we had in the recent elections,” he told al-Sharif. “This means both parties succeeded in resolving the problems of their citizens.”
The NDP won 419 of 508 total parliamentary seats on Sunday, while Burundi’s party won 32 of 34 total seats in July.
“People chose us because we successfully implemented President Mubarak’s electoral program,” al-Sharif said, adding that Egypt remains keen on maintaining good relations with Burundi.
