A cabinet official said Sunday that the police would be able to disperse the sit-ins demanding the reinstatement of toppled president Mohamed Morsy in only one hour.
Speaking to al-Hayat satellite channel late Sunday, Cabinet spokesperson Sherif Shawqy said that the police should be left to work on the means to dismantle the sit-ins at Rabaa al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda squares, noting that the Morsy supporters are carrying weapons and exploiting women and children to reinforce their sit-ins.
Shawqy said that the government is seeking to end the protests with the least amount of human loss possible, revealing that the cabinet has been negotiating with all political players with regards to how to disperse the sit-ins.
Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy has said that the decision to disperse these sit-ins is final and will be applied in accordance to the law. The Interior Ministry has urged protesters to go home and has promised not to pursue the sit ins' participants in court.
As the sit-ins at Rabaa al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda squares enter their second month, little has changed in the demands of the protesters.
